Frequently Asked Question(s)

What does N95 refer to?

N95 refers to a filter class, not a mask. Many masks have an N95-class filter, and many people refer to them, and have come to know them as N95 masks. An N95 mask means the mask filters out at least 95% of non oil-based particles, including haze particles.

For more information, please refer to the following link: http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/topics/respirators/disp_part/RespSource3basic.html

The AIR⁺ N95 Protect Mask is certified to US NIOSH standards. When the testing protocols were conducted for NIOSH certification, both sizes – M and L are rated NIOSH N95.

What is the difference between NIOSH certification and European Standards FFP1 and 2?

NIOSH and European FFP standards are two internationally recognised standards that test and certified the protection efficiency of a respiratory mask.

The European test methodology (FFP) tests for both non-oil based particles and oil-based particles.

Class Filter penetration limit (at 95 L/min air flow)
FFP1 Filters at least 80% of oil and non-oil airborne particles
FFP2 Filters at least 94% of oil and non-oil airborne particles
FFP3 Filters at least 99% of oil and non-oil airborne particles

Does the N95 Mask protect against haze/volcanic ash? PM2.5?

Yes it does. Haze particles are mostly made up of particles that are 2.5 microns or smaller.

The N95 Mask has been tested and found adequate to provide protection against haze/volcanic ash as it is at least 95% efficient in filtering small particles down to 0.1- 0.3 microns.

For comparison: human hair is on average 70 to 80 microns and human red blood cell is 5 microns in diameter, dust mite and allergens are 0.1-0.3 microns.

What is the difference between AIR+ Voyager and other reusable masks?

Engineered to provide advanced respiratory protection for everyday use, AIR+ Voyager is a high performance reusable mask that comes in 4 colours to fit your style and personality. Each mask uses industrial-grade media for advanced performance, and is coated with anti-microbial technology on the outer surface and anti-odor technology on the inner surface of the mask.

What is the science behind AIR+ Voyager?

Each of AIR+ Voyager's protective features are rigorously tested, according to international standards, and proven to deliver 3X protection for up to 30x washes:

  1. Industrial-grade Filtration Efficiency - Filters >95% of aerosolized particles.
  2. Hygienic Anti-microbial Protection - Kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.
  3. Anti-odor Protection - Neutralizes build-up of nasty odors.

How do I know what is my AIR+ Voyager size?

The AIR+ Voyager is available in M and L sizes. Please use this chart to measure from your chin to eye level. If you measure 110mm-120mm, M size fits you best. If you measure 121mm-140mm, L size fits you best.

Can I wear my AIR+ Voyager immediately after removing from packaging?

Please hand-wash mask lightly before first use.

How often should I wash my AIR+ Voyager?

Please wash your mask when dirty or stained. It is not necessary to wash the mask if only used lightly for a short period of time.

How do I remove stubborn stains from my AIR+ Voyager?

Do not use bleach on the mask. For stubborn stains, rub lightly with diluted detergent and rinse gently under cold water.

How should I store my AIR+ Voyager?

For hygiene and safety reasons, always store your mask in a clean ziplock bag when not in use. Each AIR+ Voyager comes in a reusable ziplock bag for your convenience.

Can I still use the AIR+ Voyager after 30 washes?

We do not recommend using the mask past 30 washes as the active-hygiene, anti-odor and filtration properties of the mask will decrease after 30 washes. However, you may continue to use them like an ordinary fabric mask or used with other masks for added protection, if you wish.

Can I reuse my AIR+ Surgical Mask?

The AIR+ Surgical Mask is a disposable medical face mask that is intended for single use only.

How should I store my AIR+ Surgical Mask?

What is the difference between AIR+ Surgical Mask and AIR+ Surgical Mask with Premium Comfort?

The Surgical Mask with Premium Comfort uses advanced filter media for ultra-breathable comfort. Both surgical masks are medical grade and tested to ASTM Level 2 Standard, with 99.9% bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE).

What is active carbon and what does it do?

Active carbon (also known as activated carbon) is porous treated carbon that has a large surface area to remove contaminants through adsorption. It is used in the surgical mask to adsorb unwanted odors, pollutants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

What is adsorption and what does it mean?

Adsorption is the adhesion of gas molecules (adsorbate) onto a surface (adsorbent) – or simply put, the gas molecules stick to the surface. When carbon is activated, it has millions of micro pockets and pores, greatly increasing the surface area for adsorption of gas molecules. This is why active carbon is capable of capturing and locking in odors on its highly porous surface.

Is active carbon safe for use in masks?

The active carbon is safe and non-toxic. Active carbon is used in different fields from water purification to medicine.

What is the difference between AIR+ Surgical Mask and AIR+ Surgical Mask with Active Carbon?

The Surgical Mask with Active Carbon comes with activated carbon to adsorb unwanted odors, pollutants and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Both surgical masks are medical grade, however the Surgical Mask with Active Carbon is tested to ASTM Level 3 Standard and is rated for protection against moderate to heavy exposure to aerosols, spray and fluids. The Surgical Mask is tested to ASTM Level 2 Standard and is rated for protection against light to moderate exposure to aerosols, spray and fluids.

How should I store my AIR+ Surgical Mask with Active Carbon?

For hygiene and safety reasons, always keep your mask in a clean ziplock bag, mask keeper or case when not in use (eg. during dining or eating). Avoid folding or touching the surface of your mask when handling.
